Stores are decked out in varying shades of red, pink, and white these days, and chocolate is everywhere you turn. If your life is anything like mine, there are a few key people who you’d like to show a little extra love to, but let’s be honest… there is mashed banana on the floor, library books in the living room that are 9 days late, you haven’t had a shower in 3 days and have no ideas for dinner… much less, any ideas or time for a Valentine’s Day gift for the grandparents. Well, here ya go.
“XOXO’s From Your Sweetie” Jar:
—a jar of any size or kind (I saved the glass jars from my minced garlic, salsa, and salad dressing).
—a bag of Valentine M&M’s or Hershey Kisses
—wax paper
—craft paint/spray paint in red/white/pink, etc. (I already had a can of Chalkboard Spray Paint, so I used that).
Paint the lids and let dry (usually takes about an hour to dry). The odor was really hanging around in the jars I reused from the minced garlic… so I let them soak in white vinegar for about 20 minutes. Wash and dry jars thoroughly. If you’re using M&M’s, it’s cute to sort out the different colors in separate bowls. If you’re short on time, skip the sorting. Fill the jar with candy (layer the colors if you sorted the M&M’s), cut a small piece of wax paper to put on top, screw the lid on… and tada! All done! If you used regular paint, put a mailing label/sticker/tag on the jar with a little note or use chalk to write on the lid if you used chalkboard paint. I wrote “XOXO, Your Sweetie” on the jars we made.
If you paint the lids at the very beginning and let them dry while you’re filling your jars, this entire craft should take no more than an hour from start to finish. If you are reusing a jar, and already have some paint lying around, the only cost is buying the chocolate. This Momma loves cheap, quick, and easy.
Oh, and if you still need an easy dinner idea for tonight, check out https://abbeydraa.wordpress.com/recipes-voila/ for some of my favorite quick meal recipes. As far as going 3 days without a shower, baby powder in your hair will be your best friend… seriously, try it (it’s like cheap dry shampoo). Return the library books on the way to the grocery store to buy the chocolate for this craft. And the mashed banana on the floor? Well, Momma… you and I should be besties, because that’s how we roll too. Happy Valentine’s Day!
