The Mom Bod in all it’s glory.

It’s the closing of summer… maybe I should’ve written this sooner. I’ve never been one to overtly struggle with my personal self-image. Not that I’ve ever had the ideal bikini body (um, never)… but I was raised to be be active, enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and be confident. Now, I have two children that are three and under. My body has definitely undergone some major changes. It has created, carried, birthed (my babies have been 8.5 lbs and 10 lbs) and continues to nourish and chase tiny humans.

I watch what I eat, I stay active… but the Mom Bod remains in all it’s glory. I’ve watched myself become more self-conscious and constantly compare myself to others… and I don’t like the way that feels.

Both our children are girls… with beautiful personalities, precious little figures, and the sweetest, spunkiest little souls to ever walk the Earth. How can I teach them to be healthy and also have a confident self-image when they always see me standing on a scale, complaining, and never splashing in the pool with them?

So, moms – it’s the end of summer. Go play in the rain, splash in the pool, run through a sprinkler, jump through a splash pad… whether you wear a swimsuit or just play in your clothes… Be confident. Be positive. Genuinely have fun. Teach your boys that a truly beautiful woman is beautiful on the inside. Model for your girls how to be healthy AND how to have a healthy self-image (the latter has nothing to do with a diet, by the way).

I look at my loose tummy, my stretch marks, my chest that shows the signs of constant breastfeeding, my stretched-out hips… my body has brought two children into the world, and THAT is something to celebrate. Behold, the Mom Bod in all it’s glory. 🙂
